incorporating state-of-the-art technology from Lurgi Gmbh, Germany, saving precious
foreign exchange for the country.
Methanol, a
petrochemicals in liquid form is produced either from naptha or natural gas and is used
for the manufacture of formaldehyde, MTBE, acedic acid and a wide range of other chemical
products.
In 1987, Rama
Petrochemicals brought in an entire methanol plant from Austria. The 60,000 tones per
annum methanol plant was set up in a record time of 14 months meeting the country's demand
- supply gap for methanol.

To grab new opportunities
in it quest for new market, Rama Petrochemicals Ltd. started new division, Rainbow Denims.
Set in Punjab the state-of-art denim plant will use the preferred rope - dyed technology
with an initial capacity to produce 10 million metersof denim per year, primarily for
exports to the developed markets in West and south East Asia. This will be one of few
plants in India to produce denim in state of Art Looms not only in shades of blue, but
also several other colours to keep pace with the international trends. The plant will soon
enhance its capacity to 17 million meters.
The Denim project too has
been planned to complement the group's substantial presence in the international fashion
garments segment. As India is the third largest producer of denim in the world, Rama
Petrochemicals' diversification into high quality denim will not not only be synerggistic
with its garments and haute cotoure business, it also add to its international trading
expertise. We aim to achive success and hold our own as a quality player in the niche
Indian denim market.
