Gelatine Project
Rama Industries Ltd., a newly set
up group company, is setting up a new hi - tech project to make 2,000 tonnes per annum of
high grade gelatine. With the project, the group also makes its mark in the low volume -
high margin fine chemicals.
The gelatine made by Rama
Industries will become an important sustitute for various domestic industries. Thanks to
its peculiar versatility, the areas of gelatine usage are numerous and products varied.
In the pharmaceutical
marketing gelatine is used for the manufacture of capsules, suppositories, pastilles and
emulsion. In the Sugar Confectionary industry, gelatine forms an integral part of sweets,
tablets, ice creams, puddings, jellies, marsh mellows, sugar - coted almonds.
Gelatine is also used as
preservatives in canned meats, salamis, etc. In the beverage industry, gelatine finds use
in the clarification of red and white wines, beers, fruit juices, cider etc. The edible
grade of gelatine will also be used in sunrise food processing industries like toothpaste,
chocolate cake coverings, cream emulisifiers and in cosmetic industry in beauty masks,
shampoos etc.
Moreover, for the first
time in the country, Rama Industries will produce special grade gelatine exclusively for
photofilms and X-rays which are currently being imported in the country.
The raw material for
gelatine is primarily animal bones abundantly available in India. Rama Industries will
also set up 8,000 tonnes per annum plant to make Di Calcium Phosphate (DCP), a residual by
- product of the gelatine plant. DCP thus produce will, once again be used for animal feed
project to be set up by its sister Rainboe Agri - Industries Ltd.
